The ArtRoCad study published by the Spanish Society of Rheumatology (SER) specifies that osteoarthritis is one of the rheumatic diseases that generate more than 30% of the permanent and temporary work disabilities registered in Spain. Specifically, osteoarthritis of the hip causes the hip joint to become stiff and swollen, which can mean that even rest does not relieve the pain. It is one of the main causes of incapacity of the adult locomotor system and it is estimated that more than 50% of the population over 50 years of age has osteoarthritis in some joint, and in the hip it has a greater impact due to its function of transmitting loads, its great mobility and work in walking.

The total hip prosthesis is one of the greatest advances in orthopedic surgery. And the Evolution Short Stem is a development of the Furlong prosthesis, the first prosthesis in the world covered with ceramic hydroxyapatite, a bone substitute that imitates human bone and offers great survival of the implant, as well as a significant increase in fixation to the bone. It is less aggressive on the bone than previous techniques. Its application is indicated, above all, in hip arthrosis and, secondarily, in aseptic necrosis.

Dr. Óscar Tendero has been using short-stem hip prostheses with hydroxyapatite coating since 2014. These prostheses are ideal for patients with high physical demands and have a survival rate that can be extrapolated to the best prostheses on the market. With more than 350 short stem prostheses placed, he is one of the most experienced surgeons in Europe in this type of design.
